Midwest Agribusiness Insurance

March 11th, 2011

Agribusiness affects more people than nearly any other industry. A fundamental component of the American lifestyle and national security, it is also a core principle of our economy. The industry is vast and diverse, and requires insurance that can accommodate those risks inherent to such businesses. Given the breadth and complexity of the business landscape, from growers to implement dealers, elevator co-ops to ethanol producers, many different coverages can apply to Midwest agribusiness insurance (and similarly Midwest agriculture insurance). Following are just a few:

  • Equipment Repair/Replacement
  • Midwest Property Insurance
  • Business Interruption/Continuity
  • Midwest Professional Liability Insurance
  • General Liability Insurance
  • Casualty Insurance
  • Small Business Insurance

As such, it is imperative to speak with a trusted firm that knows the industry and the region. Defining your customized set of Midwest agribusiness insurance coverages will require critical analysis of your business and what is important to it. It will also require the expertise of those who develop these policies for a living. In Minnesota agribusiness insurance, North Dakota agribusiness insurance, Nebraska agribusiness insurance, South Dakota agribusiness insurance, and Iowa agribusiness insurance, Howalt+McDowell keeps you secure so you can do what you do best: raise the crops that raise communities.

Midwest Property Insurance

March 10th, 2011

Midwest property insurance can cover many different physical components of a business. Computers, files, furniture and product inventory are all protected with a Midwest property insurance policy. When you think of property insurance, thoughts often gravitate toward large objects like buildings and infrastructure. Yet it’s often the smallest pieces of business property that are most critical. Thus the importance of a great Midwest property insurance policy. With is, you will be protected for the replacement cost of all of your vital property. As always, regional and local laws can make a difference, so make sure your policy is tailored to your area of operation: South Dakota property insurance, North Dakota property insurance, Minnesota property insurance, Iowa property insurance, or Nebraska property insurance. Worried about the costs? Midwest property insurance is scalable to the extent of property you want to cover so it can easily be controlled to fit needs and budgets. Midwest property insurance is available to any business owner with property to insure. Even if you lease space, you’ll want to consider the value of your furniture, equipment, inventory and files.

Midwest Contractor Insurance

March 9th, 2011

Midwest contractor insurance is crucial to long-term stability for such a diverse and dynamic industry. As a contractor, each job you win brings in more income with greater risk. The same Midwest contractor insurance that protected you for a one-man project will likely not offer the protection you need during your new multi-year commercial deal. There are many aspects of contractor insurance, and having the right combination of coverages is imperative to keep your business above water when accidents occur. Coverage areas that need to be addressed in your contractor insurance include:

  • General Liability
  • Midwest Workers Comp
  • Midwest Professional Liability
  • Bonds & Surety
  • Disability Insurance
  • Business Interruption/Continuity Insurance
  • Commercial vehicle insurance

Finding a trusted firm familiar with your area will also help you localize policies (e.g. South Dakota contractor insurance, North Dakota contractor insurance, Minnesota contractor insurance, Iowa contractor insurance, or Nebraska contractor insurance). If your contractor insurance misses any one aspect of this protection, your job and your company may be at risk. Though cost is always a concern for contractors, with a custom Midwest contractor insurance policy, you control what types and amounts of coverage you purchase. It can be surprisingly affordable – and you can’t afford to be without it.

Midwest Manufacturing Insurance

March 8th, 2011

It can be disconcerting to ponder the liability exposure inherent to products you manufacture. It’s a valid concern given all of the variables involved, from consistency of production to diversity of user audience. Manufacturing insurance policies exist to ensure that manufacturers can stand behind what they produce without going under when human error takes its toll. Enlisting Midwest manufacturing insurance professionals allows companies to concentrate on business development.

As manufacturers are now considered a notable metric of economic vitality, the pressure to produce better products at lower costs has increased. The paradox is not trivial – recent economic trials have brought into relief how critical manufacturing is a reliable source of wealth and opportunity, yet there’s never been a tougher time to grow a thriving manufacturing operation. And as manufacturers grow in public visibility, it is of ever-growing importance that their image remains untarnished. By utilizing Midwest manufacturing insurance professionals, not only will liability be covered, but public image will be protected.

In Minnesota manufacturing insurance, North Dakota manufacturing insurance, South Dakota manufacturing insurance, Nebraska manufacturing insurance, and Iowa manufacturing insurance, it is of critical importance to find a trusted local insurer that understands local and regional law in addition to federal regulations. Midwest manufacturing insurance requires various aspects of coverage including:

  • Replacement of Equipment/Machinery
  • Property & Casualty Insurance
  • Business Interruption/Continuity
  • Umbrella Liability

Though general business insurance policies may seem to include some of these features, most lack industry-specific coverages such as product liability and equipment breakdown – the major risks at the front and back end of production.

Elements of Midwest Construction Insurance

February 25th, 2011

Midwest construction insurance covers the building process of residential or commercial edifices. Unlike homeowner’s insurance, Midwest construction insurance (often referred to as builders risk policy) covers the unfinished structure and purchased materials.

Midwest construction insurance can covers loss due to fire damage, wind damage, or other problems typically not covered by a general liability policy, and must be purchased prior to inception of the construction project. Insurers usually request a copy of the building contract before issuing such a policy.

Midwest construction insurance will not cover the implied value of the structure; only the money expended to the point of the damage. If a homeowner is building a $150,000 home but spends only $80,000 when a tornado destroys the structure, he will receive $80,000, even if the home has accrued a greater perceived value at that point in construction. Build it on the River Greenway

February 24th, 2011

New Events Center for the Next 50 Years

The city of Sioux Falls held a news conference at 1:30 p.m. today at the Main Library to share the location. The Events Center architectural team of Sink Combs Dethlefs and Koch Hazard Architects looked for the most suitable and feasible downtown site.

Sioux Falls Mayor Mike Huether is pushing to build a new Events Center near the current Sioux Falls Arena. But a group that wants it downtown argues putting it in the heart of the city will generate more revenue.

Now that the architectural team has identified a downtown location, the team will do a comparative analysis of the existing Arena/Convention Center site and the downtown site.

Cherapa Place, on the River Greenway, is the chosen site for the downtown site.

In 2004, Zip City Partners purchased the Zip Feed Mill site with the intent to:

  1. Secure site locally for possible Event Center development.
  2. To develop the frontage near the river that is acceptable to Raven Industries, future Howalt-McDowell Corporate Office, and the city’s mixed-use desires
(see attached pdf of original letter dated 6-13-05)

The joint vision of the City and Zip City Partners to build an event center on the Cherapa Place site is closer to becoming a reality. Due to favorable economic impact, parking and increased tax revenue, downtown and specifically the River Greenway at Cherapa, would be an excellent building site for our City’s Event Center.

(See attached original renderings made back in 2005 depicting the event center and River Greenway development. Also attached, you’ll find a presentation on the benefits of building the event center on the River Greenway in Downtown Sioux Falls)
