More about Cherapa Place

Cherapa Place is being built on a previously developed site in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The Zip Feed Mill, which was once the South Dakota's tallest builidng, stood where Cherapa Place stands. On December 3rd, 2005 The Zip Feed Mill was slated to be imploded. Amongst grand fan fare and a fundraiser for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, the old feed mill just would not go down. The building that would not fall made international news and a whopping $150,000 and priceless awareness for those suffering from the devastating effects of Multiple Sclerosis. Finally, after a month of a ball and chain whacking away at this cement and steel constructed feed mill, it was taken down.

Cherapa marks a new era for the East-Bank of Downtown Sioux Falls. The old feed mill that once stood on this property no longer graces the skyline of Sioux Falls. But that old feed mill still adorns the site, only in a different way. A large portion of The Zip Feed Mill's concrete was saved and ground down to help lay the foundation for Cherapa's parking lot.

Cherapa Place is a green building. By "green" we mean environmentally friendly, energy efficient and leadership in commercial construction. Cherapa is built on the principles of the United States Green Builidng Council's LEED guidelines (www.usgbc.org). By using the LEED standards, we are able to eliminate the negative impacts felt by our environment by the built industry. We are proud to take a leadership position, build green, and spread the word. Those inhabiting Cherapa are proud to say they are more socially responsible, healthy, and productive.
